At present, scanning machines are located in Perth, Sydney, Parramatta, Cairns and the Gold Coast. Proprietary software is used to convert a digital image into point form. The laser system then engraves the image, point by point inside an optical crystal. To engrave each point, laser light is focused to a point within the crystal. At this focus point the energy generated by the laser light is high enough to change the structure of the crystal. This point is visible as a tiny spot. The proprietary software moves the focus point of the laser in order to plot the entire image. Most images require hundreds of thousands of points to be engraved.
