Granite is chosen for those portraits destined for external use while marble is chosen for those destined for internal use.

It is only fitting and appropriate that you may wish to adorn your walls, mantelpiece, china cabinet or bedside table with beautiful, permanent memories of your favourite photos or images.
Marble has been chosen for internal use because the grain structure of marble allows us to laser etch images with slightly higher clarity and definition than granite. A marble portrait will not oxidize or easily deteriorate in internal conditions, thereby maintaining good looks almost forever. Granite has been chosen for external use because it is more durable than marble and will maintain good looks for hundreds of years.
The laser etching process allows us to etch a photo, image and/or inscription into the polished surface of the stone. Unfortunately, photos of very black images with no highlights or contrast do not reproduce well on black marble or granite.
Portraits are nominally 10mm thick with standard square and rectangular shapes ranging from 125mm x 125mm to 300mm x 300mm together with one oval shape 255mm x 175mm. There are eight different sizes to choose from. We can supply a shape or size different from those of our standard sizes but unfortunately there is a significant extra cutting and polishing charge. By combining various numbers of these eight different standard sizes it is possible for us to produce laser etched portraits up to 600mm x 600mm. It is envisaged that such a portrait would be produced by combining four 300mm x 300mm tiles which would be fixed to a backing board or structural wall. All portraits with multiple tiles will require structural support.
Portrait stands, made of slotted aluminium round bar, are available to support your standard size portrait for display.
Each customer has the opportunity to personalize the design and layout of their laser etched granite images on their portrait using the exclusive portrait design section of our web site.
Within this very simple design system, the customer selects their preferred portrait shape and then drafts their personalized inscription and uploads it onto their portrait design where it is sized and positioned appropriately by the customer.
The customer may then upload their own image or images onto the portrait design and or upload one or more images/art from the thousands of images in the Forever Shining website library. Once again, the customer sizes and positions the images to suit their design.
In addition to the laser etched images mentioned above, the customer may, at an additional charge, add one or more lifetime images, stainless steel motifs, ceramic photos and raised glass backed motifs to the design, provided space is available on the portrait. The customer nominates the colour of the raised glass backed motifs.
When the customer is happy with the design of their portrait they may purchase that portrait after saving their design by clicking the “save” icon and following the prompts at the shopping cart.
The customer may determine the price of their design at any time during the design process by clicking the “Check Price” icon on the design screen.
We do have the capability of producing laser etched portraits in a single piece of granite or marble as large as 2400mm x 1200mm. Such large portraits cannot be designed and quoted online. However, we welcome enquiries for such large portraits which will be quoted independently, having taken into account such things as product thickness, fixing method, structural support, etc.
If required, it would be possible for us to supply laser etched granite portraits, each up to 2400mm x 1200mm in size, which could be used as a focal point in a business or hotel lobby or even possibly used to clad the entire side of a building.
When you have finished your design, you may save the design to our server. You will be asked whether you wish to upload some extra images and whether you wish to email your quotation to friends and relatives.
